Instant Teeth refers to the placement of a dental implant immediately into the socket left by a recently extracted tooth, rather than waiting for the socket to heal before placing the implant at a separate appointment. When the conditions are right, this allows us to combine two procedures into one, significantly reducing the overall treatment time and sparing the patient from spending any period without a tooth in that position. In appropriate cases, a temporary crown can also be attached to the implant on the same day, so that by the time you leave the clinic the gap has already been addressed.
Immediate implant placement is not suitable in every situation. It works best in cases where the tooth being removed is in a good position for implant placement, where there is sufficient healthy bone surrounding the socket and where there is no active infection in the area. The front teeth are particularly well suited to this approach. During your consultation we will assess whether your case meets the criteria for immediate placement. If it does not, we will explain why and discuss the alternatives, including the timeline for a conventional implant placement once healing has taken place.
Before anything else, we need to establish whether your tooth is a suitable candidate for immediate implant placement. We do this through a full clinical examination and CBCT scanning, which gives us a detailed picture of the bone around the tooth and allows us to plan the implant position precisely. If all the conditions are met, we discuss the treatment plan, costs and timescale with you in full.
On the day of treatment, the tooth is removed carefully and as gently as possible. Where we are planning immediate implant placement, the way the extraction is carried out matters. We take particular care to preserve the surrounding bone and soft tissue during this stage.
Once the tooth has been removed, the implant is placed directly into the socket under local anaesthetic. The precise positioning we planned from the scan is followed carefully, and the implant is anchored at sufficient depth to achieve the stability needed for the next stage.
In many immediate implant cases, a temporary crown can be attached to the implant on the same day. This is not the final permanent crown, but it means you leave the clinic without a visible gap. The temporary crown is designed to be non-functional, meaning it sits slightly out of contact to protect the implant while it heals.
Over the following months, the implant integrates with the surrounding bone. We monitor this closely with scheduled check-ups and will let you know as soon as the implant is ready for the next stage.
Once the implant has fully integrated, we replace the temporary crown with your permanent one, crafted in our on-site laboratory to match your natural teeth precisely.
For most people, the appeal of Instant Teeth is straightforward. Nobody wants to walk around with a gap in their smile, particularly if the missing tooth is visible. Knowing that an extraction and implant can be completed in a single appointment removes what is, for many patients, the most daunting part of the process. Patients who choose this route also consistently tell us that having the temporary crown in place from the start helps them psychologically. The transition from problem tooth to implant feels seamless rather than staged, and that matters more than people might expect.
