At MCR Implant Centre we work exclusively in implant dentistry, including the assessment and management of complex implant complications. We see patients who have received treatment both in the UK and overseas, and we approach every case with the same objective: a thorough diagnosis, an honest conversation about the options available, and a clear plan for getting things right.

Who is this treatment suitable for?

Patients who have had implant treatment overseas and are now experiencing problems, or simply have concerns about the long-term prognosis of their existing implant work. Those concerns might be straightforward, a loose crown, some discomfort around an implant, or difficulty keeping certain areas clean, or they might be more complex, such as a failing full arch restoration, significant bone loss, or infection around one or more implants.

You do not need to have an active problem to come and see us. If you have returned from treatment abroad and simply want the reassurance of a thorough specialist review, we are well placed to provide one. Our team works with these cases regularly and will give you an honest picture of where things stand without making assumptions about the treatment you have received.

Benefits of Overseas Implant Correction

  • A clear, specialist diagnosis of what is happening and why
  • A structured treatment plan based on your specific circumstances rather than a generic approach
  • Access to a team that works exclusively in implant dentistry and complex implant cases
  • The confidence of knowing your existing implant work has been assessed by an experienced specialist
  • Corrective treatment options where problems can be addressed, and honest guidance where they cannot
  • Improved function, comfort and appearance where corrective treatment is carried out
  • Long-term monitoring and maintenance support following any corrective procedures

HOW THE TREATMENT WORKS

Step 1: Comprehensive Assessment

The starting point for every overseas implant correction case is a thorough clinical assessment. We examine the condition of every implant, the surrounding bone, the soft tissue and any existing restorations. We use CBCT scanning to produce a detailed three dimensional picture of the implant positions, the bone levels around each fixture and the relationship between the implants and the surrounding anatomy. Where possible, we will ask you to bring any records, scans or documentation from your original treatment, though this is not always available and we do not need it in order to proceed.

Step 2: Diagnosis and Treatment Planning

Once we have a complete picture of your situation, we sit down with you and go through everything we have found. We explain clearly what is working, what is not working, and why. We then outline the options available to you, ranging from intervention to resolve specific problems through to replacement of failing implants where that is the appropriate course, and we give you our honest assessment of the likely outcome in each case. There is no obligation to proceed with treatment at this stage, and we will not recommend a course of action we do not believe is genuinely in your interests.

Step 3: Corrective Implant Treatment

Where treatment is recommended and agreed, the approach will depend entirely on what the assessment has identified. Some patients require removal of a failing implant followed by bone grafting and a planned replacement once the site has healed. Others need correction of the restorations, crowns, bridges or full arch prosthetics, while the implants themselves remain viable. In cases involving infection or significant bone loss, addressing those issues first is a necessary step before any further implant work is considered. Every corrective treatment plan is built around your specific situation, and we will always explain what each stage involves and why.

Step 4: Long-Term Stability and Maintenance

The goal of any corrective implant treatment is not just to resolve the immediate problem but to give you a stable, long lasting result. Once treatment is complete, we put a structured review and maintenance programme in place to monitor the implants, the bone levels and the surrounding tissue over time. We will advise you on the best way to maintain your implant work at home and schedule follow up appointments at appropriate intervals. For patients who live outside Manchester, we can work with your local dental practice to ensure continuity of care between visits.

WHY PATIENTS CHOOSE THIS TREATMENT

The patients who come to us following overseas implant treatment are in a variety of situations. Some have a specific problem that needs addressing and want to know whether it can be fixed. Some have a general sense that something is not quite right but are not sure what. Some have already been told by another dentist that their implants are failing and want a specialist opinion before deciding how to proceed. And some simply want the peace of mind of a thorough review from a team that works exclusively in this area.

What almost all of them have in common is that they feel uncertain and, understandably, a little anxious about what they might be told. We take that seriously. Our role at the assessment stage is not to pass judgement on the treatment that has been carried out, implant complications can occur for many reasons and are not always straightforward to predict or prevent, but to give you an accurate and complete picture of where things are and what realistically can be done.

If you are concerned about implant treatment you have had overseas, the most important thing to know is that implant complications, whatever their cause, can very often be successfully managed when assessed and treated by a team with the right level of specialist experience.

Every case is different, and we would never want to raise expectations without first understanding your individual situation in full. What we can say is that MCR Implant Centre has extensive experience in the assessment and correction of complex implant cases, and that many patients who have come to us feeling worried about their existing implant work have gone on to achieve a stable, comfortable and lasting result.

A specialist assessment is always the right first step. It gives you accurate information, removes the uncertainty, and allows a properly informed conversation about the options available to you. If you have concerns about implant treatment you have received, we would encourage you not to put off seeking that assessment. Please get in touch with our team and we will take things from there.
